Our Family Garden Project

Hello Family! John and I have talked about planting gardens and sharing our bounty with each other. We think it is a great idea and we would like to invite all the family to take part in "Our Family Garden Adventure". This blog will help us share information, pictures, trials and triumphs! Our goal is to share as a family, eat healthier, save money, and have some fun!

Kale Harvest

Our first Kale harvest. Half a pound of Kale. Just trimming up the plants a bit. Thought I would try to freeze this to work on the process. Here is what I did.

  1. Very cool. Kale is pretty bitter so you'll have to figure out how to eat it. I am still harvesting tomatoes. I guesstimate about 5 lbs of tomatoes, so far, from 4 bushes. That is not so great. I wonder how we can increase our yield? My 4 plants are huge so you would think they would produce more. I fed them some plant food yesterday and they are well watered so I'm not sure what else to do.
Question: I tried to kill the weeds in my yard with organic weed killer (orange oil) yesterday but nothing happened. I paid a small fortune for the stuff too!! Does anyone know of a better way to safely kill weeds? I read that 20% vinegar works but I can't find that anywhere. The store brands are all diluted to 5% which does not do a thing--I tried. I'm getting ready to say the heck with it and go back to using chemicals. Ideas?
