Our Family Garden Project

Hello Family! John and I have talked about planting gardens and sharing our bounty with each other. We think it is a great idea and we would like to invite all the family to take part in "Our Family Garden Adventure". This blog will help us share information, pictures, trials and triumphs! Our goal is to share as a family, eat healthier, save money, and have some fun!

Variety in Our Gardens

One of the benefits of all of us growing a vegetable garden in our backyard is that we can all grow 2 or 3 different things and when we get together to exchange our crops we would have a better variety. What do you think?

  1. Great idea, Buck, and nice blog. I am anxious to join the gardening adventure. I planted my first garden this year and have had quite a bit of success. I've learned that it's difficult to plant a variety of plants because they become overcrowded so I think the idea of a family garden where we each focus on growing a few things then share sounds great. The most important thing I learned with this garden is don't crowd the veggies! My broccoli and cabbages got huge and overshadowed the whole garden. My tomotoes also grew large and shadowed the peppers. All of the plants are still growing except the squash and pumpkins which did not like the cooler weather at all. I'm still harvesting cabbage and broccoli so that's great! I may grow them again in the spring to contribute to the family harvest since I've had such success with them. Looking forward to spring! Karla
